Ethics Academy Luncheon 2007

The Inaugural Ethics Academy was held Oct 12th, 2007 on the campus of Chapman University, Orange, California.
The Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics was the Program Host. Passkeys Foundation served as the Program Manager. This first-of-its-kind-in-the-U.S. character education initiative brought together 10 public high schools in Orange County, represented by teams of 6-10 Ethics Academy students from each high school. Each team had an advisor from their school to "coach" their team through the Academy's 1-day ethics training/workshop.
The full day of ethics exploration and team building included lectures, ethics exercises and discussion about values, morals and ethical behavior on high school campuses. Each team created its school community code of ethics and examined the ethical barometer of their high school.
The educational resources used with the student teams in the Academy were the Building Decision Skills and Ethics & Service Workbook developed by the Institute for Global Ethics, Camden Maine.
The centerpiece presentation of the inaugural event was the luncheon presentation by Dr. Robert Spitzer, President of Gonzaga University and founder of the Spitzer Center for Ethical Leadership.
All ten teams returned to their school campuses with the responsibility of creating and presenting an Ethics Project directed to their high school student body. Each high school team receives a $500 grant for their Ethics Project. The project will be presented between January 15-March 30, 2008. Project Reports will be submitted to Passkeys Foundation for review. On April 30th Ethics Academy High School teams will return to Chapman University to be recognized. The three best school site Ethics Iniatives will be announced.
